Frequently Asked Questions

This list consists of questions that you, as participants, ask most frequently. Please look for answers in this list first to avoid asking the same question again. Thank you!

Organisation

Q1 How many hours do I need to spend on the course?
A1 The planned study load is about 4 to 6 hours per week.

Q2 Do I need to watch the lectures live in the corresponding week?
A2 No, you can watch the lectures during the course whenever you like.

Q3 Can I contact the instructor or teaching assistants?
A3 Not directly. The discussion forum is the appropriate venue for questions. Moderators and instructors monitor the discussion forum and try to respond to the most important questions; in many cases, response from other students will be both adequate and faster.

Q4 What about the accessibility of videos?
A4 You can download the transcripts and videos.

Q5 How can I download the transcripts?
A5 On the right side of the 'download transcripts' button underneath the video is the option to choose between an .srt-file or a .txt-file. Choose the .txt-file to dowload the text. If you prefer a more readable document you can then copy-paste this into a word processing application.

Introduction & Preparation

Q1 Which browser can I use when working on this edX course?
A1 We advise you to use Chrome, Firefox or Safari. Internet Explorer is not supported by edX, so consider using an advised browser instead.

Peer Review

Q1 When can I submit the peer review assignment?
A1  Submitting your report for the main assignment is only possible during module 5, from the 6th of September to the 20th of September 2016 (23:00:00 UTC/GMT). Reviewing others will be possible from the 6th of September 2016 until the 27th of September 2016. Note that these are adjusted due dates, to allow everyone an extra week to finish their work.

Q2 How many peers do I have to review in the peer review assignment?
A2 You need to review the work of at least 4 of your peers to receive credit for your own report. If you have time, please consider reviewing more than 4 to help ensure everyone's reports are graded quickly. You will receive feedback from 3 of your peers.

Q3 What if I feel I am being treated unfairly in peer review?
A3  Reviewing is the responsibility of your peers, and we are not able to manipulate grades after the peer-reviewing. The community consists of highly motivated people provided with clear instructions, so we trust that their peer-reviews will be accurate. Double check your submission before handing it in, and write in English as clearly as possible.

Q4 Why can I not click on 'Upload' in the submission of my assignment in the peer review module?
A4 The button will become active once there is text added in the response box. It is possible to save your progress after typing part of your response, and then finish the assignment at a later time.

Q1 Can I still finish all assignments when I start later in the course?
