Grading and Course Assessments

Students will receive grades on weekly participation, end of module assessments, a final exam and a final activity.

    • Participation is worth 10% of your overall grade. This includes participation in the discussion forums and completion of two short surveys.
    • End-of-Module Assessments are worth 55% of your overall grade.
    • The Final Exam is worth 25% of your overall grade.
    • There is also a Final Assignment. This is an opportunity for you to create a short written exercise addressing one of the two case studies (you choose) that we present at the beginning of this course - Colombia and Afghanistan. This assignment is worth 10% of your overall grade.

Each module will have a corresponding quiz at the end of the module and a participation activity for each week of the module. Some modules span two weeks, and there is an assessment at the end of each week. Each question in the quiz is weighted, and the points per question is provided next to the question.

You will have two attempts at each question if it has multiple answers; and only one attempt if the question has only two answers or is true/false.

Once you have submitted your final answer to each question, you can click "show answer" to see a detailed explanation to the question. It is recommended to review this information even if you answered the question correctly as the explanations may provide additional insights.

After you submit your answers, you can view your grade report under the Progress tab from the main menu.

Weekly Group Activities in each module will ask you to engage with the content in a new way each week, often making use of discussion groups. Each participation activity will be followed by a series of questions asking if you've completed the activity. Once you have completed the activity and answered these questions, your participation score can be viewed under the Progress tab.

The final exam will combine information from all the lectures and will be released during the last week of the course.

You have the duration of the course to complete all assignments for credit. All questions are due on 21 April 2019 at 23:30 UTC, or Co-ordinated Universal Time. Please check what the corresponding time is in your respective timezones!
