Course Syllabus

WORKLOAD

We recommend learners to dedicate 2 to 3 hours a week to go through the course material and complete assessments.

To complete the course it will therefore take you roughly 12 hours.

A HANDS-ON APPROACH

  • In week : you will program a traffic light!
  • In week 2: you will add a pedestrian crossing to your traffic light.
  • In week 3: you will program a buzzer capable of producing sound.
  • In week 4: you will add a barrier to your traffic light to build a "level crossing".

GRADING POLICY

To quality for a certificate, you must achieve a total grade of 60% or higher. Each week includes a Quiz and a Lab. The first Lab is autograded (Auto-Lab) and the further three labs are peer-reviewed (PR-Lab).

The quizzes are worth 60% of your overall grade, the autograded lab is worth 10% and the peer-reviewed labs are worth 30%.

Whereas the due date for Lab 1 and the quizzes is the 30th of July, Labs 2, 3 and 4 are peer reviews and are only open for specific dates between the 18th of June and the 30th of July, as detailed below

It is possible to pass the course by completing the quizzes and the auto-graded assignment, but we strongly recommend that you take part in at least one peer-graded assessment to practice using Arduino and to gain experience in commenting someone else's work.

Update 2nd July : one of the Labs is "droppable", which means that out of the 4 labs, the one which you receive the weakest grade on won't count towards your final grade.

You have one attempt at the peer-reviewed Lab, two attempts for the each question in the quizzes, but an unlimited number of attempts for the autograded Lab.

You can keep note of your progress towards achieving your final grade in the Progress page. An “avg” column gives you the average obtained for each assessment type. It is calculated as the sum of the grades of the assessment type divided by the number of exercises graded as this specific assessment type.

The "Final" column is the sum of these averages, weighted as follows:

100 % = "Quiz avg"*60% + "Auto-Lab"*10% + "PR-Lab avg"*30%
