Course design

The course has been designed as a sequential learning experience. Each topic builds on the previous topic. This is not to say you won't have to go back at times and review earlier topics. As you build on earlier knowledge and skills, it may become apparent that your understanding of an earlier topic may need to be improved. The structure of the course makes it easy to quickly go back and review the relevant content associated with a specific lesson in a specific topic.

Privacy

At different times we will ask you to contribute to a discussion forum. Information contained in discussion forums is publicly available. Therefore, we ask that you use caution to ensure you don't share personally identifying information. All other responses you provide will be treated confidentially as per edX's privacy policy that you can access through the link at the bottom of this page.

Course expectations

Time commitment: this course is self-paced, however, we would expect most learners to work through the material in around 6 weeks if they invest 8-10 hours per week. This time commitment is based on completion of all online activities and required readings.

Prerequisites: this course has no pre-requisites, though it is a graduate level course that assumes an undergraduate degree level understanding in a non-cognate area. This course builds on the ANUx course EBM01x Evidence-Based Practice in Management available via edX and assumes an understanding of the material covered in that course.

Language of instruction: English (this includes all closed captions and transcripts).

Discussion forums: this course makes frequent use of discussion forums. All learners are expected to contribute, to post, and to comment on the contributions of their peers. Prior experience suggests learners gain more from the course if they engage in discussion with their peers. We would encourage learners to use the 1+3 principle, that is, to post a contribution to each discussion and comment on at least three contributions from their peers. As a general rule, we also encourage learners to practice good forum etiquette. We will monitor posts and intervene if needed. Repeat offenders may be excluded from the course.

Course updates: all course updates will be posted to the 'home' section of the relevant course site. Please ensure you visit this section of the site regularly (at least weekly).

Academic policy: while this course is not governed by Australian National University (ANU) academic policy, learners are expected to meet generally accepted academic standards for integrity. These standards are captured in the ANU Code of Practice for Teaching and Learning.

Course Assessment

This course uses both graded and ungraded assessment. The ungraded assessment includes contributions to forum discussions, completion of interactive learning activities, and end of lesson quizzes. The main goal of these activities is to provide an opportunity for learners to reflect on their learning journey. While the ungraded assessment activities do not contribute towards the final grade in the course, we encourage you to complete the ungraded activities, since they are an important part of the course, and will help you develop your understanding of various topics.

The only graded activities in this course are the end of topic quizzes and the final exam at the end of the course. Learners must achieve a 'pass' grade to qualify for a verified certificate. Following is information on the weighting and content of the graded assessment activities:

  • Topic quizzes (60%): The end of topic multiple choice quizzes will include cover all required material from all lessons within the associated topic (including associated readings). Each topic quiz will contribute 10% towards the final grade in the course, and learners must pass each quiz in order to qualify for a verified certificate. A 'pass' grade is equivalent to 50% or more.
  • Final exam (40%): The final multiple choice exam at the end of the course will cover all required material from all lessons within every topic. Learners must pass the final exam in order to qualify for a verified certificate. A 'pass' grade is equivalent to 50% or more.

If you want to see what is counted towards verification, go to the Progress Bar in the top menu.  This will tell you which activities are compulsory and will show you which activities you have completed. Please note that students intending to earn the MicroMasters Credential must successfully complete and earn a Verified Certificate in all seven EBM courses.

Timing of assessments

As this is a self-paced course, assessments can be completed at any time.

Upgrade to verified certificate

Students will be able to upgrade to a Verified Certificate anytime prior to completion of the final exam at the end of the course. Please note the results for any completed topic quizzes will be carried across to the verified version of the course.

Students who successfully complete the ANUx Evidence-Based Management MicroMasters Program with a score of at least 70% in the final capstone exam will receive advance standing for the following on campus ANU programs:
