Dr Terry Fitzsimmons

Lecturer in Leadership, UQ Business School

Dr Terrance Fitzsimmons is a Lecturer in leadership, human resource management and change management with The University of Queensland Business School.

He is also a Chartered Accountant with over 30 years of experience. His PhD in Leadership examined successful attributes of CEOs and differing pathways to CEO roles for men and women. Dr Fitzsimmons has worked with many of Australia’s largest firms on their diversity programs and speaks regularly in Australia and overseas in the area of gender equality and inclusion. He has served as national and state president of not for profit bodies as well as a being a director on boards of Listed Public Companies in Australia and overseas.

Associate Professor Tyler Okimoto

Associate Professor in Management, UQ Business School

Associate Professor Tyler Okimoto teaches courses on leadership, conflict, HR, and decision-making in the undergraduate, MBA, and Executive Education programs at The University of Queensland.

Tyler received his PhD from New York University in 2005, and worked as a researcher at Yale School of Management prior to joining UQ in 2011. His research investigates biases in organizational and ethical decision-making, particularly how those biases contribute to discrimination, unethical practices, injustice, and conflict within and between groups. His published work has been featured in numerous media outlets, including the New York Times, the Washington Post, the UK Guardian, the Daily Mail, the Atlantic, Smithsonian Magazine, Good Morning America, PBS News, and National Public Radio.

Associate Professor Bernard Mckenna

Associate Professor Bernard McKenna

Associate Professor in Management|Management Discipline Leader, UQ Business School

Bernard McKenna is an Associate Professor in the UQ Business School. Prior to his appointment in 2002 he was in QUT's (Queensland University of Technology) Business Faculty for nine years. His academic teaching background covers communication theory, corporate and scientific communication, political communication, organizational communication, and business ethics at graduate and undergraduate level. 

Associate Professor Bernard McKenna's research interests include wisdom and knowledge management in the new economy; technical, political, and managerialist discourse; and professional writing. He has published in both national and international journals. In 2007, Bernard won the UQ Business School Excellence in Research award. He has also won and completed two ARC Linkage Grants.

Professor Victor Callan

Professor of Leadership and Management, UQ Business School and Associate Dean, Research Faculty of Business, Economics & Law

Victor is Professor of Management and Leadership at The University of Queensland (UQ) Business School, and Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law at The University of Queensland.

He has an international research reputation in the fields of organizational change, work stress, and leadership. He has published in the world's leading management and psychology journals, including the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management, Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, Journal of Vocational Behaviour, and Leadership Quarterly, to name a few. Victor is a regular contributor to executive education and workshops for senior executives and managers in the areas of organizational, workforce and leadership development.

Professor Neal Ashkanasy OAM

Professor Neal Ashkanasy (OAM)

Professor of Management, UQ Business School

Neal M. Ashkanasy OAM, PhD is a Professor of Management at the UQ Business School at The University of Queensland in Australia.

He came to academe after an 18-year career in water resources engineering. He received his PhD in social/organizational psychology, and his research is in leadership, organizational culture, ethics, and emotions in organizations. His work has been published in leading journals including the Academy of Management Journal and Review, the Journal of Organizational Behavior, and the Journal of Applied Psychology. Prof. Ashkanasy is a Fellow of the Academy for the Social Sciences in the UK (AcSS) and Australia (ASSA); the Association for Psychological Science (APS); the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP); Southern Management Association (SMA), and the Queensland Academy of Arts and Sciences (QAAS). In 2017, he was awarded a Medal in the Order of Australia.

Associate Professor Nicole Gillespie

Associate Professor Nicole Gillespie

Associate Professor in Management, UQ Business School

Nicole’s research focuses on trust development and repair, particularly in challenging contexts (e.g. after a trust failure, in complex stakeholder environments, during organizational change, technological disruption and in cross-cultural relations).

She also researches in the fields of teams, leadership and the adoption of technology-enabled virtual health services. Nicole's current research is on understanding stakeholder trust in organizations and industries, the repair of trust, trust in multicultural teams, and stakeholder trust and uptake of Telehealth. Associate Professor Gillespie's research appears in leading journals and she is on the Editorial Boards of Leadership Quarterly and Deputy Editor of the Journal of Trust Research.

Professor Polly Parker

Professor in Leadership Director of Education, UQ Business School

Polly researches in the fields of career management and development, peer coaching and leadership development.

Professor Parker has established a national and international reputation in the fields of career management and development, peer coaching and leadership development. This is based on a successful research program and numerous international publications in Journal of Vocational Behavior, Journal of Organization Behavior, Academy of Management Learning and Education (all ERA - A), Human Relations & IJHRM (ERA - A). Polly has developed a systematic and coherent research program around the themes of peer coaching, the intersection of career and leadership development and intelligent career management.

Ms Tracey Martin

Ms Tracey Martin

PhD candidate and sessional lecturer and MicroMasters® Program Facilitator, UQ Business School

Tracy is currently completing her PhD program at The University of Queensland, which focuses on the role of company boards in organizational change. She also lectures in UQBS HR Masters program, drawing on more than 20 years of experience in multinational corporations.

Her specialties include: organizational development, change management and employee engagement. Tracy has a particular interest in the behaviours and interactions of top management teams.

Dr David Roony

Dr David Rooney

Professor of Management and Organizational Studies, Macquarie University, Sydney

David Rooney's focus is on understanding the role of wisdom and knowledge in the economy. His central interest is how knowledge can be translated into excellent (and wise) practice. He has published a number of books including Public Policy in Knowledge-Based Economies, the Handbook on the Knowledge Economy (Vols 1 & 2), Knowledge Policy, and Wisdom and Management in the Knowledge Economy. David’s research on wisdom, knowledge economies and knowledge policy is regarded as having made important, innovative and practical contributions.

Dr Rooney's teaching covers areas like leadership, organizational behaviour, knowledge management, change management, and strategic management. He has more than 15 years of University teaching experience and in the past David has worked at The University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology and Griffith University.

David has also worked with a wide variety of organizations in the private, public and not for profit sectors. He is a regular public speaker, runs professional development seminars and workshops, and provides media commentary.

Professor Peter Hoj

Professor Peter Høj

Vice Chancellor and President of The University of Queensland

Professor Peter Høj commenced as Vice Chancellor and President of The University of Queensland on 8 October 2012.

Prior to this appointment he was Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of South Australia from June 2007. Before that, he was CEO of the Australian Research Council (2004-2007) and Managing Director of the Australian Wine Research Institute (1997-2004).

Peter was educated at the University of Copenhagen, majoring in biochemistry and chemistry, has a Master of Science degree in biochemistry and genetics, a PhD in photosynthesis, an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Copenhagen and the University of South Australia.

Professor Høj is the chair of the Board of Group of Eight (Go8) Universities in 2017, a member of the Australian Medical Research Advisory Board (AMRAB) from 2016 and a member of the Queensland State Government’s International Education and Training Advisory Group (IETAG) from 2016. He is a senior consultant to Hanban in the Oceania Region.

Mr Michael Schoch

General Manager, Crux Project, Shell Australia

Michael Schoch is the Perth based General Manager of Shell Australia’s Crux Project offshore NW Australia.

Additional roles at Shell Australia include Chair of the Local Content Roundtable with Govt. and Chief of Staff for the Crisis Management Team. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Committee for Perth.

Michael has recently won the title of national Gender Diversity Champion at the 2017 Women in Resources Awards. He was honoured as a visible champion within Shell Australia for gender diversity and as a key advocate in affecting positive cultural change throughout the organization, and more broadly in Western Australia through his wide reaching interactions in industry forums.

Mr Paul Holland

CEO Creativity Well

Paul Holland is the founder, managing director and principal consultant of Creativity Well, a consultancy firm who provide advice and facilitation around strategy, leadership, change, creativity and innovation, knowledge management and executive coaching.

Paul has had significant experience in the private and public sectors as an executive manager, company director, educator, business coach, media producer, and interaction designer. In the education sector Paul has worked as a teacher, tertiary educator, manager, and educational media developer. He is also a director of VASE (Victory Audiosonic Sound Equipment), a boutique valve amplification company that services the international music industry. Paul is a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership and Management, a Member of the Australian College of Educators, Past President of the Australian Council for Computers in Education and a Past President and Life Member of the "Queensland Society for Information Technology in Education.”

MS Marion Faulker

CEO Committee for Perth

Marion Fulker is the CEO at the Committee for Perth, a private-sector funded think-tank.

With an expected population growth to 3.5 million by 2050 in the Perth region, the Committee undertakes research and proposes solutions to maintain Perth’s high levels of liveability and improve its global competitiveness. Marion also holds leadership roles in various state government bodies, such as the Infrastructure Coordinating Committee and the Western Australian Conservation and Parks Commission.

Marion is the winner of the 2016 Telstra Business Women Award Western Australian For Purpose And Social.

Ms Helen Conway

Former Director of the Workplace Gender Equality Agency

Helen Conway has had a successful career as a lawyer and senior executive.

Following ten years in private legal practice, including seven years as a partner in a major law firm in Sydney, she moved into the corporate sector where she worked as a senior executive in the insurance, transport, energy, retail and construction industries over 18 years. From 2011 to 2015, Helen served as CEO of the Australian Government's Workplace Gender Equality Agency, a statutory authority with regulatory and other responsibilities.In 2005, Helen was awarded the Australian Corporate Lawyer of the Year by the Australian Corporate Lawyers Association. She is currently serving as a non executive director on numerous boards in Australia.

Mr Mike Silverstone

Mr Mike Silverstone

Former Commander Australian Special Air Service Regiment (SAS) and Northern Command

Mike Silverstone served for more than 30 years as an Australian Army officer in leadership and senior command positions from the rank of Second Lieutenant through to Brigadier.

He had several postings with the Special Air Service Regiment (SAS) as a troop then squadron commander and finally as its Commanding Officer in 1995 and 1996. Other senior positions included postings as: Commander of the Multi-National Peace Monitoring Group in Bougainville, Papua New Guinea in 2000; and, the Commander of the Australian Defence Force’s Northern Command in 2001-2.

Between 2004 and 2014, Mr Silverstone held the office of inaugural Executive Director (Chief Executive) of the Western Australia Corruption and Crime Commission. Mr Silverstone has numerous academic and professional qualifications including a Master of Science in Adult Education and Continuing Training and a Master of Arts in Strategic Studies.

He is a graduate of the Australian Army Command and Staff College, the US Army Command and General Staff College and the Australian Defence College. He is a Fellow of both the Australian Institute of Leadership and Management the Australian Defence College.

In 1999, he was awarded a Conspicuous Service Cross for his service as Commanding Officer of the Special Air Service Regiment.

Mr Bill Hauritz (AM)

Founder and Festival Director, Woodford Folk Festival

Bill Hauritz is the Founder and Festival Director of the internationally acclaimed Woodford Folk Festival. 

The Festival’s not for profit organization is developing its 500 acre permanent site, Woodfordia, dedicated to the arts, humanities and folk lore. It has heavily invested in permanent infrastructure, including the planting of 100,000 endemic trees.

‘Woodford’ is one of the largest folk festivals in the world and the largest community driven cultural event in Australia. The event recorded an aggregate attendance of 132,000 in 2016 and is the largest gathering of artists and musicians in Australia.

Bill was awarded the prestigious Queensland Smithsonian Fellowship which took him on a lengthy study of festivals in the USA and Canada. He was appointed as a member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the National Honours List, recipient of a National Myer Arts Prize, Queensland Music Industry Lifetime Achievement Award and appointed as Honorary Senior Fellow at University of the Sunshine Coast.
