        • What type of computing environment do I need for this course? You need to have a computer running one of the following operating systems: Microsoft Windows, version XP or greater (XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7); Apple OSX, version 10.2 or greater; Linux, most distributions that have been released within the past two years should work

        • What is the format of the class? The class will consist of lecture videos, which are broken into small chunks, with multiple shorter videos within each lecture tab. These are associated with lecture questions, which are multiple choice, posted below the corresponding video. There will also be several Peer Graded short-answer essay assignments.

        • How can I learn more about the course content? Please watch the video on this page that we recorded especially for this offering of the course.

        • Will the text of the lectures be available? Yes, transcripts of the course will be made available alongside each video.

        • How much does it cost to take the course? The course is free, and all necessary materials will be provided. There is also the option to take course as a 'Verified' Student. It costs $250. As a Verified Student, your papers will be graded and commented on by a philosophy instructor. (You can upgrade to a Verified Students here.) Upon completing the course you will receive a certificate that says you completed the course as a Verified Student.

        • Will certificates be awarded? Yes. Online learners who achieve a passing grade in a course can earn a certificate of mastery. These certificates will indicate you have successfully completed the course, but will not include a specific grade. Certificates will be issued by edX under the name of MITx, designating the institution from which the course originated. If you are a Verified Student, in addition to having your work graded and commented on by a philosophy instructor, you will receive a certificate indicating as much.
