2.008x is a 10-week course, and contains 12 modules following the Introduction. Each module focuses on one manufacturing process or principle, and each week contains one or two modules. The modules will be released sequentially according to the schedule below, and after the module is released, you will have two weeks to complete the associated assignments.
We have two types of assignments:
- Intertwined within the lecture sequences, you will be asked to answer concept questions that relate directly to the preceding video chapter(s). These are mostly multiple choice, along with some simple calculations. You have access to all of the video content regardless of your completion of the concept questions; however, because subsequent chapters and questions build upon the preceding content, the best approach is to answer the questions before proceeding to the next video.
- At the end of most modules (beginning with machining) there is a problem set. The problem sets contain many questions that require to do calculations and enter a numerical answer. We have designed these questions carefully to be appropriate for the data entry format of the edX platform (i.e., we cannot evaluate your approach to the numerical answer).
The number of attempts you are permitted is stated for each question. Simpler questions are granted fewer attempts; for example, a true-false question would only have one attempt allowed, whereas a multiple choice question may have more than one attempt. Please note that in all cases, only your final attempt will be recorded. If you have obtained the correct answer, and subsequently submit an incorrect answer, the problem will be marked as wrong.
The concept questions are weighted equally (regardless of the number of questions for a particular module) and total 30% of the course grade. The problem sets are weighted equally (i.e., each problem set counts toward the same amount of your final grade) and total 70% of the course grade. Your lowest problem set score will be dropped.
Here is the 2.008x schedule, along with release dates and assignments for each module. The due dates are always listed in the left side topic menu. The problem sets are due three weeks after the release date, while the concept questions may be completed any time before the course end date.
