This course offers three learning tracks with different terms, conditions and stakes. In each learning track, the course team is committing to offer you a specific learning experience and a specific support. In return, a specific commitment is expected from you. Please choose your preferred learning track and read the appropriate course syllabus.
I've already chosen my learning track and I'm ready to read the syllabus
- I'm taking the Audit (free) track of this course
- I'm taking the Verified (charged) track of this course
- I'm a UCLouvain student and I'm taking this course in my study program
I've not yet chosen - What are the learning tracks available?
Any online course on edX.org is offered in two different learning tracks. In addition, UCLouvain students have an adapted Verified track.

1. The audit track
- Proposes a general approach of International Humanitarian Law (yet, it’s a master level law course so learners with poor knowledge on this subject may have to work harder to understand the materials).
- Invites you to test your mastery of the concepts through not graded multiple choice questions that avoid complex and controversial issues.
- Implies a workload of about 4-7 hours/chapter.
- Allows a free access to the course during 12 weeks (starting when you enroll).
- Doesn’t deliver any certificate and doesn’t allow you to pursue the International Law MicroMasters.

2. The Verified track
- Offers a deeper and more complex learning experience: detailed considerations and developments on controversial issues, additional videos and readings.
- Assesses your mastery of complex and controversial issues through graded, more complex MCQ, case studies and peer review assignments.
- Offers a staff graded final exam. The staff grades essays usually at the end of each month. Some delay can be expected around busier on-campus period (namely end of the year). You can then expect to get your evaluation at the latest 1 month after the end of the course.
- Implies a workload of about 8-12 hours/chapter.
- Delivers a Verified certificate (in case of passing final grade) and allows you to pursue the International Law MicroMasters credential.

Make your choice
You’re invited to make your choice at the end of Chapter 1. Chapter 1 is common for the two tracks and let you see examples of learning materials specific to the verified track. Starting from Chapter 2, the learning tracks are different. It is still possible to change track at any point after that, before the announced deadline.
Upgrade now. The ultimate deadline to upgrade is October the 13th, 2020.
3. UCLouvain students
If you're taking this course in the context of your study program at UCLouvain, you have to take the Verified track but you'll not be charged for it. Besides, you'll get specific instructions as on-campus students. Please refer to your teacher about that.
