Academic Policy

You must behave with academic honesty and respect your fellow students. Please abide by the edX Terms of Service & Honor Code.

Course Format

This course consists of the following:

  • Lectures: Each module of the course, approx. 1.5 h lecture videos divided into short video clips are provided. You can find the module themes in the course syllabus.
  • After-video Quizzes: After some lecture videos, questions are provided and will be graded. (Module 1, 2 and 4: 6 questions, Module 3: 7 questions)
  • Final Exam: 10 quizzes are provided and will be graded. 
  • Discussion Forums: Discussion forums are great tools to learn from one another. Please post your questions and thoughts, and exchange opinions with your peers. It is highly recommended that you contribute to and learn from the forums.

Release Dates and Due Dates

Release dates for lecture videos/quizzes and due dates for quizzes are explained below. Please note that lecture videos become available at the same timing (0:00am on Fridays) and all times are UTC (NOT YOUR LOCAL TIME). Please refer to the below chart to convert UTC to your local time.

In fact, there are no strict deadlines for quizzes in this course except for the final due date, i.e. 23:59 on May 8. Above tentative due dates are given for your convenience for appropriately attending the module lectures. Your answers to quizzes post these dates will be accepted and graded without any penalty. However, please note that you will have to submit all the assignments by 23:59 on May 8, for receiving the final grade.

Grading Policy

Your final grade will be calculated on the basis of the following formula:

  • Questions in Modules (25 questions): 75%
  • Final Exam (10 questions): 25%    

Certificate

To receive a Verified Certificate, you have to obtain >= 70% of the maximum possible score. If your work is satisfactory, you can generate your certificate on your own. 

Communication Policy

You are encouraged to post your comments and questions and interact with your peer students in the discussion forums. Your posts will be occasionally monitored by course staff; however, owing to the large number of students and limited resources, we may not be able to answer all questions. We would appreciate your understanding.
