ABOUT THIS COURSE

This course is the first in a series of four English language MOOCs designed for students with an intermediate level of English looking to reach a higher intermediate level. The course is comprised of video lessons, reading comprehension activities, grammar explanations and exercises, listening comprehension activities and speaking practice. 

 The course covers interesting topics such as successful businesses, risk management, industrial design and radio broadcasting. 

This course also includes preparatory materials and recommendations to take the Cambridge University First Certificate in English Examination (FCE).

PREREQUISITES

Lower Intermediate or Intermediate level of English

UNITS 

Course & Tester Unit 1: The Asian Overground?

Writing an informal letter or e-mail. Uses of the present tenses. Ecological food. The problem with pesticides.

Course & Tester Unit 2: You are what you eat

Writing a letter to a friend. Tips on how to write a composition. Learning about industrial design. How to prevent allergies. Understanding a radio broadcast. Speaking about ourselves.

Course & Tester Unit 3: The Federal Reserve

Writing a letter of application. Reading about the Federal Reserve and the Future G8. uses of the past tenses. Understanding a lecture on Risk management. Practicing pronouncing the -ed endings of past participles.

Course & Tester Unit 4: It's all about business

Reading about successful businesses (Amazon - the biggest success story in e-commerce). Writing an e-mail of application. Using the past tenses in context. Listening to a discussion on oil prices. Talking about stress and job-related stressful situations.

 

SCHEDULE

The course is in self-paced mode. This means that the all the content will be published from the beginning of the course so that you can do the activities at your own pace .

GRADING POLICY

There are no exams, all the exercises in the course are graded with a weight related with the number of points they award. The graded subsections of the course are classified in 7 different types depending the number of points they award. Depending on the question you have a different number of attempts to answer  You will pass the course if your score is 50% or more of the maximum possible score . Remember that to get a certification you have to verify your identity and pay a fee.
