Assessments and Grading
This course contains ungraded quizzes and discussion activities, which all learners are encouraged to attempt. Whether or not you are pursuing a certificate, you are encouraged to complete all of the assessments, as they are your opportunity to gauge how well you understand the material. For the quizzes, you will have two attempts at each question if it has multiple answers, and only one attempt if the question has only two answers or is true/false. Verified Learners also have access to a final exam.
VERIFIED LEARNERS: The final exam counts for 90% of your grade. Completion of the pre- and post-course surveys counts for the additional 10%. You must pass the course with a 70% or above to receive your Verified Certificate.

For the final exam, please remember:

You will be allowed only two attempts to select the correct answers for multiple-choice and “check all that apply” questions.

You will be allowed only one attempt at the correct answer for True/False questions or multiple choice questions with just two answers.
Certificates
In this course, learners have the opportunity to earn two different certificates:
edX Verified Certificates: Learners who upgrade to the Verified Track can pursue a Verified Certificate of achievement, awarded by edX upon successful completion of the course. Verified learners must complete the upgrade, verify their identity, and pass all graded assessments with a score of 70% or higher. If you successfully complete the course, you can find your Verified Certificate under the Progress tab within a few days. Upgrading to the Verified Track costs $49 USD, and edX offers financial assistance for learners who qualify. Learn more about edX Verified Certificates in the edX Help Center.
UNEP Certificate of Completion: All learners have the opportunity to earn a free Certificate of Completion, awarded by UNEP, upon completing the course. If you would like to receive the UNEP Certificate, be sure to complete the post-course survey and follow the instructions carefully. Please note that these certificates will be generated manually by the UNEP team and sent to the email address you provide, so you may not receive your certificate right away. Your patience is appreciated.
Please note that neither certificate is credit-bearing on its own. However, some students have been able to negotiate for academic credit with their universities. Speak with your institution to see if this is an option for you.
