Welcome to the Equity and Inclusion in Education -online professional development course on equitable and inclusive education! We are delighted that you have enrolled! 

This course provides an introduction, raises awareness and builds capacity on ten core aspects of equitable education, why they are important, and especially what can be done in order to implement them in practice. Course equips you with the mindset, knowledge and skills to be the CHANGEMAKER for equitable and inclusive education and learn how to narrow down the disparities in your own context.

All the learners should be supported based on their needs to reach same educational outcomes to realize their right to education. Course modules guide transformation of education across different levels; global, national, subnational, local and community levels and through various different expertise from policy, financing, leadership, to classroom context, utilization of learner centered pedagogies, technology, data and partnerships. This will lead to better educational outcomes for all and returns for investment to education.

Course contents are practical, applicable, offering models, strategies and tools for implementation. Our content is directed at a broad audience of education experts and practitioners, namely policy-makers, government officials, NGOs/CBOs in the education sector, educators and students of any of these disciplines – open to anyone, anywhere, anytime.

As a result of taking the Equity and Inclusion in Education course, users are expected to be able to:

  • Explain the key concepts of inclusion, equity, and marginalization in education
  • Justify why equitable education concepts are important
  • Identify how to apply equitable education concepts in their context
  • Implement innovative approaches to equitable education
  • Advocate to achieve more inclusive and equitable education

 

Course Logistics & Requirements

Equity and Inclusion in Education online professional development course is a self-paced and directed course. We suggest that you set aside 2-3 hours weekly to ensure enough time for learning. With this pace, the 10 module course will be done in 10 weeks – you can of course decide to get the course done in faster pace too, for example 2 modules per week!

The course materials provided:

  1. Short, narrated course videos: each module has 3 short videos of 7-10 minutes to guide you through the essential knowledge and concepts related to the topic as well as introduce you, how these are already put in action in different contexts!                                            
  2. Quizzes and Exercises: check your understanding with our quizzes, reflect and plan your actions with our worksheets and exercises or engage into conversation with other experts.
  3. Highlighted readings: these are readings we require you review to dive deeper in order to build your holistic understanding of the module topics and themes around the topic.
  4. Additional readings: these readings are recommended resources if you are interested in getting to know more about certain topic – more resources can be always found from the Equitable Education Hub, equity-ed.net
  5. Cases and resources: all the cases, practices, models and
  6. References: References to research are presented at the end of the module for validation of our content but also for your use! 

Course Assessment and Grading

While this course is not credit-granting, we encourage learners to work with their own institutions to explore the option of granting credit for online coursework.

This course contains ungraded video chapter questions, reading quizzes, and discussion activities. Upon completion of all modules, you have the opportunity to receive a UNESCO Certificate of Completion. See the “Assessments & Certificates” tab at the top of your screen to learn more.

Learners on the Verified Track must also complete a final exam.

VERIFIED LEARNERS: The final exam counts for 100% of your final grade. The Final Exam consists of information from all of the lectures and readings. You must pass with a 70% or above to receive your edX Verified Certificate. 

Whether or not you are pursuing a certificate, you are encouraged to complete all of the ungraded assessments, as they are your opportunity to gauge how well you understand the material. 

Before entering the final assessment, please ensure that you have reviewed all the sections of the course and you can ‘print as pdf’ the course finalization page, to be attached to your final examination.

We expect all learners to adhere to the edX Honor Code when it comes to the completion of SDG Academy courses.
