☛ We are using vocaroo for a number of reasons - (1) It's appears to be the simplest and most reliable service out there that meets our need; (2) It has been used by the other similar MOOCs successfully (3) The project leader thinks it is cool!
☛ Permanent storage is not provided by Vocaroo. If you want to keep you recording, you should save the sound file on your own computer / mobile phone.
☛ Yes, you can use another provider. The main thing is that you can easily share a link to the sound recording with other participants - make sure that the link is not set on private, or that the listener has to download the recording or sign in to be able to listen. One service you might want to use is audioBoo (this does require you to create an account).
