1. Where can I find the content?

  • You can find all the content under the Slides & Notebooks page. Additionally, we have made this content available on GitHub too.

2. How long do I have access to the course materials as an audit student?

  • As an audit learner, you have 6 weeks to complete the course from the date you enroll. However, you are welcome to re-enroll as many times as you like (but progress will be lost).

3. How are the lab environments provided?

  • We will provide Databricks workspaces for verified (paid) students to complete the labs and earn a verified certificate. You will access these labs through Vocareum, so that all of your work can be graded and automatically sent back to edX. The labs are self-contained Python notebooks for you to complete. Each lab has a specified allocated timer which you can start and stop.

4. Why should I take the verified track?

  • Hands-on experience: The verified track includes hands-on labs within a Databricks environment to apply the concepts you learned from the course.
  • Certification: Gain certification and recognition of the completion of this course, including the lab assignments, showcasing your hard work and understanding of this important field.

5. What happens if my lab timer runs out but I haven’t completed the lab?

  • We have worked hard to ensure that you have all of the necessary resources to complete the lab tasks in the allocated time. Unfortunately, due to cloud costs, if you cannot complete the tasks in that timeframe you will not be able to extend the timer.

6. What happens to the lab environment after the timer ends?

  • The lab environment will be deleted after you have exhausted the total time budget for that lab or after 45 days from starting the lab, whichever comes first. Please ensure you export your work before the timer runs out to retain a copy.

7. If I find an issue with the courseware, how should I report it?

  • Please post about it in the module specific Discussion forum as multiple students will likely encounter the same issue.

8. What if I need help?

  • If you have questions about the course, please post in the module specific discussion forum.
  • If you need technical help on how to use the edX platform, click the Help tab (located in the top right corner of your browser screen) for the edX Learner's Guide. Or use the Support button at the left to contact the edX support team.
  • If you need help with Vocareum, please contact support@vocareum.com

9. What if I want to use my own Databricks environment?

  • You are welcome to use your own Databricks environment & import the notebooks there!

10. If I use my own Databricks environment, can I get the verified certification as an audit student?

  • Unfortunately not. We can only provide verified certificates to students on the verified track.

11. Do I have to pay for API keys?

  • All of the API keys we use in the course are free, and we provide instructions on how to create your own API key. We provide optional reference content if you want to use paid services such as OpenAI, but they are not required for completing the course.

12. Will these notebooks run in another environment outside of Databricks?

  • No. While most of the code within the notebooks is open-source/platform agnostic, the setup scripts are dependent on a Databricks environment. Due to the license of the course (All Rights Reserved), we do not support running the notebooks in any non-Databricks environment.

13. I missed a deadline in the verified track, how can I shift the suggested schedule?

  • Click the Shift due dates button available on the Dates page, course homepage, or at the top of any assignment page. See more info here.
