ACCA-X courses are a great step towards a new career in accountancy, finance, and business. Here are some useful tips to help you get started.
-
Q. How can I assess my level of knowledge before I begin this course?
Underpinning knowledge is an important factor in helping you get the most out of this course. To help you prepare effectively, ACCA has created some self-check quizzes to assess your underlying knowledge in maths.
Access the Student Virtual Learning Centre now.
This is also a fantastic study resource for those progressing onto the ACCA qualification (see below for more information).
Q. How much time should I dedicate to study?
One benefit of self-study is the flexibility to find a routine that works for you. However, with no set schedule to follow, it’s normal to feel unsure about the amount of time you should spend studying.
There are simple steps you can take to ensure you’re progressing at a reasonable rate. Consider how much time is available and set a realistic study timetable. Perhaps there is a certain time of day, or week, when you can work without distractions and be most productive.
A course map is available to help you plan and achieve your personal goals. It can be found in the ‘Course Handouts’ section on the right of the homepage.
Q. What is the 'Dates and Scheduling' feature?
edX has recently introduced a new feature designed to help students stay on track. This feature sets suggested dates, which provide a focus for learning and structure within self-paced courses.
Remember, these are flexible deadlines and you can adjust them at any time. You can do this by going to the 'Dates' course tab and selecting 'Shift due dates'. Please be aware that if you miss the deadlines, you won't be able to submit assignments until they have been updated.
Q. I want to have another attempt at the graded exams. Can I reset my score and begin again?
The graded exam questions can only be attempted once. We are unable to reset the score. However, all other quizzes and tests may be attempted as many times as you wish.
Q. Will I get a certificate at the end of the course?
To gain a certificate, you will need to register with ACCA and sit the relevant exam. More information on the benefits of becoming an ACCA student can be found on the website.
This course does not offer an edX certificate.

This is dependent on your personal situation. Generally, we’d recommend booking your exam halfway through the course as this will keep you motivated and give your learning a focus. It is possible to enter for two exam sessions at once, which helps you to plan your studies in advance. More information on booking exams can be found here.
