Can I access the material at any time?

The assignments and unit tests have deadlines. However, you may watch the videos and complete the activities at any time during the course. If you remain registered in the course you will still have access to the materials after the course ends.

I don't understand the answer to this activity/question?

Start by looking for an explanation using the Show Answer button that appears after your first attempt. If you did not find a satisfactory answer refer back to the video material or post your question in the discussion forum. Refer to the Help section for instructions on posting in the discussion forum.

Do I have to read the Optional Readings and the References?

No, these resources are provided for those who might desire additional resources.

What is a word cloud?

A word cloud is a semi-quantitative poll. It displays words font sizes proportional to the number of entries for each word. For example, in the word cloud below a lot of students entered the words obesity and diabetes therefore these words appear larger compared to the other words with fewer enteries.

Click the star in the upper right hand corner to add post to your followed posts. You can find the posts you are following by going to "Posts I’m Following" under the categories tab.

Can I delete or modify my posts?

No. However, you may reply to your own post with any corrections you wish to make.

How do I view the discussion in progress in the courseware?

Click the "Show discussion" icon.

Where are my scores for the entrance survey?

You are not graded on the entrance survey. Once completed your scores will be appear as 0/0.

What are Practice Scores?

All lesson activities have Practice Scores for each attempt. You are given unlimited attempts to complete the lesson activities which do not count towards your course grade. Feel free to keep trying, or click Show Answer and then enter the correct response. 

Practice Score 1/1: When you complete an activity correctly.
Practice Score 0/1: If you do not complete an activity or answer incorrectly.

What are Problem Scores?

All assignments have Problem Scores. You have a limited number of attempts to achieve the correct answer for assignment problems which will count towards your course grade.

When are assignments due?

The assignment deadlines appear in Coordinated 24 hour Universal Time (UTC). We advise students to submit their assignments a minimum of 5 minutes before the deadline to avoid synchronization issues. Click here to see the course syllabus for further details.

Do I have to complete the Unit Assessments?

If you want to attain the certificate of completion it is advisable that you complete the Unit Assessments.

I cannot submit my assignment / test?

Please check the due date. If the assignment due date has passed you will be unable to submit your assignment or test answers.

I started the course late, can I get an extension on assignments and tests?

Unfortunately, due to the volume of participants in the course we cannot make considerations on a case by case basis. Note that your two lowest assignment scores will be discounted from your final grade; only your best 8 assignments will count.

When do I get my grade?

Your grades will be calculated and displayed in the progress bar instantaneously. If you achieved 60% or greater as your final course grade, you will receive your certificate of completion after the course ends.

How do I use Zeemaps?

Why does my post not appear on Zeemaps?

Someone else posted in the same location as you. Try using the list tool or clicking the posts that overlap your own post to cycle through them and find yours.

  • Create a post on the discussion with an appropriate title in the corresponding category (image and step by step directions below).
    1. Go to the Course Discussion tab.
    2. Click New Post.
    3. Select the appropriate category: Week # Technical Issues
    4. Title: Lesson # Activity/Assignment/Video #
    5. State the issue.
    6. Click Add post.
